Travel

The Malawi Team has made it safely to South Africa!

We met Stephanie at PDX and travelled with her to Washington Dulles. After a group photo, Stephanie headed towards her plane going to Europe and we went to our destination Africa gate. Thankfully, the plane was quite empty so Jon and Jill spread out on several chairs. The plane had individual entertainment with remotes! We read, watched movies and played games. Jen and Jill pulled their blankets over their heads in an attempt to block out the world and sleep! Free wine and Tylenol PM aided in the process.

Tonight we will stay in Pretoria, just outside Johannesburg. A kind pastor has taken us into his home and filled our stomachs with Kentucky Fried Chicken! We will continue our flight to Malawi tomorrow morning. So close, yet still far to go.

Even the little ones work hard.

The local bananas are amazing! They make a great snack anytime.

A morning photo of our community toilet. Due to no electricity, many people have difficulty "hitting" the small rectangle after sunset.

Reality in the kitchen: A team of Malawiian women spend all day leaning over these little fires, cooking meals for us.

Using flannel pieces to tell the story of Noah's Ark. The students identify animals, make sounds, and come add the pieces to the ark. We showed the teachers how to use the illustrative board as a teaching tool and left enough boards and pieces for each school.

A student from Bolero Nursery School.

These students live in a village in Bolero, Malawi.

Care for a snack? Try some roasted birds on a stick!
